“Give From the Heart” Campaign for MI Preschooler Scholarships
February is a time to think about loved ones and give from your heart. MIPA and your preschool community are asking each of our 900 families to unite in helping to raise money for 10+ children currently living on Mercer Island who are not able to attend preschool.
These children are right here, in our community. Typically, they can be children whose parents suddenly face a spouse’s death or major illness and lose their only paycheck, children whose single mom is escaping domestic violence and starting anew, or children who have recently moved from outside the U.S. In the past, many of these families have opted to keep their children at home instead of attending school. As a preschool parent, you recognize the value of preschool preparing your child for a successful start in life. Please can you consider giving that same healthy start to perhaps one of your child’s classmates?
For almost two decades, MIPA has been the sole funding source for preschool scholarships that are administered efficiently and discreetly by MI Youth & Family Services. Preschool tuition costs have risen and yes, the number of requests has risen as well. The average Mercer Island preschool tuition cost is roughly $3,500 a year. MIPA is turning to the preschool community to help its own and meet our community’s preschool scholarship funding goal of $15,000. It is our hope that this $15,000 will help in partially funding these children’s education.
The “Give from the Heart” will end February 28th. Donations in any amount, and all corporate matching funds, are greatly appreciated. All donations are 100% tax-deductible. A heart-warming thanks for giving to this worthy cause.
Please mail your donations to MIPA, earmark it: ‘Give from the Heart”, and mail to POB 464, Mercer Island, WA 98040, or use our online donation through Paypal, simply click this paypal button:

KIDS ACTIVITIES!
MIPA sponsors several major
events for the kids during the school year and a variety of activities each
month. Times and locations will be updated here
and in your monthly PocketNotes.
In October, MIPA's Halloween
party is great for the ghosts, goblins, and princesses in your home!
Our
biggest, premier event is Circus (formerly
Circus McGurkus), held in April. Kids from all over the Northwest
attend this event!
Every month, we hold a
coffee social, in a park or at someone's home. This is a great
way to meet other mom's while your kids burn off energy playing with
other preschooler kids! Our Community Outreach group, finds
activities for the kids each month ... puppet shows, soundbridge,
library readings, skating, children's theater, ice cream store tour and
more! You can find a listing of these on our "Kids
Korner" page!
PARENTS ACTIVITIES!
Our all-volunteer board is very active putting on
events for our kids and in our community! We meet once a month at
general membership meetings, held in
different members' homes. Any member is welcome to these meetings.
Our Community Outreach group, sponsors
Mom's Night Out which is a great way to get out of the house (no
kids) and meet with other mom's in a relaxing environment.
In the past, MNO activities have included spa nights, sushi eating
nights, wine tasting and more.
MIPA helps you get into the holiday spirit every year.
We start with the incredibly popular Toy Swap
in November, where you can clean out your closets or pick up some great
bargains. In December, the kids decorate doors at a senior citizen
home during "Holidoors".
We have a variety of clubs you
can join from running to reading to scrapbooking and more. Meet
parents with similar interests! Or share any
ideas with other preschooler parents, such as recipes, preschooler
activities.
It's not all just fun and games. MIPA looks out
for our preschoolers within our community at the state. Check out
our legislative page for more information
on how you can get involved! Also, many of these fun events are
also fundraisers for our "Major Gifts"
and "Charitable Giving" funds!
PRESCHOOLS!
Every year, before registration deadlines, we host a
Preschool Fair, where you can meet
representatives from the many preschools, daycare centers, and
enrichment programs in the area. Ongoing, we have a listing of
current preschool openings. Also,
we've started an annual award for the Exceptional Educator!
Events are put on by our volunteers. There's
always room for more people to get involved. Please contact the
event chairs or send an e-mail to
volunteers@mipreschoolassociation.org.
